Hardware Desperate times, desperate measures. DDR5 Laptop ram adapter for desktop use.
Due to the ram shortages I had to do some desperate measures to finish my build. I’m using laptop ddr5 4800mhz ram into my desktop build. Seems stable enough and no crashes thus far after gaming on it. Hopefully prices can normalize. Overall cost is 40 euros for 16gb of ddr5.

Discussion Avoid CCleaner! It "auto-installed" version 7 and bypassed my permissions. Absolute malware-like behavior
I’m honestly fuming right now. I downloaded the Portable Version (v6) of this app to keep my system clean. I even blocked its internet access in my firewall.
Somehow, on the second launch, it didn't just open; it transformed into Version 7 and installed itself on my PC without a single UAC prompt, installer window, or permission request.
How is this even possible? This app should require elevated permissions to write into Program Files. What TF is Microsoft Security even doing if a "portable" app can just decide to install a completely different version of itself behind my back?
Adding files or installing to Program Files always requires UAC, yet somehow CCleaner bypassed it.
Also, they have a file called SkipUAC, which is in my Windows>System32 folder, added without any permission or alert.

Game Image/Video POV: Cloud gaming on a laptop but the server is your desktop PC on another continent.
Playing Arc Raiders, Alan Wake 2, Cyberpunk 2077, Silent Hill 2 using Steam Remote Play and Parsec (Parsec for single players, Steam RP for online shooters). If I didn't know any better, I wouldn't believe that the game is running 3000 km away in my small room. The experience is great.

Game is running at 1280x960 (DLAA), locked at 85 fps without drops. Monitor is a Samsung Syncmaster 1200NF. Powered by an RTX4090 and 5800x3D. Video colors are unedited, only using ingame Reshade to add some slight VHS noise and chroma smear for that extra CRT oomph.

Discussion Dead internet isn't a theory. The internet is literally dead. Idk how to use it anymore
I've heard about the "dead internet theory" and never really thought much of it. But recently, I've noticed that the web is incredibly annoying in just about every single way imaginable. I dont wanna go on like a whole rant, so I'll just say for me, it's a few things
- Information is really, really bad. AI summaries on Google, websites I've never even heard of coming up in search results and infested with AI slop. I found a website describing a very technical game development trick in Godot, and they were so lazy they left some of the AI boilerplate that obviously they wrote it with Chat GPT.
- It's so difficult to find anything! I went through 4 years of college and each year we had this whole library trip and how to search for real information that is truthful, accurate.... it's so hard to find stuff now
- I barely see what I want to see. On Facebook, it's all just a bunch of ads, recommendation on groups to follow, people sharing dumb memes. I barely see anything my friends share now. Bluesky has been the only place I can actually see things I want to see
- AI is in everything, and can't be turned off. For example, how many times I've turned off copilot features in Windows, uninstalled Xbox, or removed optional stuff from Windows... it's like a plague
- Ads in everything. I watched a series of Ads on YouTube, go to check the weather, ads... and go back to youtube, the page unexpectedly reloaded, more ads.
- EVERYTHING is cloud based. I really miss when you could just download stuff to your PC. Thank goodness Discord has a PC application and isn't just out of your browser. I wish everyone had this idea. But the DRM and like, web stuff now is so crazy
The internet feels like it's basically worthless to me now

Discussion [PSA/RANT] Corsair Official Store sent me a USED/BROKEN €730 RAM Kit sold as NEW. Support ignored video proof, refused Advanced RMA, and left me stranded for Christmas.
Hi everyone,
I'm sharing my recent experience with the Corsair Official Webstore to warn the community, especially during this holiday season.
The Issue:
I ordered a brand new kit of Dominator Titanium RGB DDR5 48GB (2x24GB) 8000MT/s.
Considering the current market situation with severe availability shortages and skyrocketing prices, securing a high-speed kit like this was a massive investment (€730+).
Important Note: The outer shipping box was perfectly intact and sealed. This proves the damage did not happen during transit—it came from their warehouse like this.
What I found inside was shocking:
The product box seals were broken/tampered with.
The RAM modules had visible scratches and signs of wear.
Missing/Broken Parts: One of the LED strips was completely missing. Even worse, the threaded insert on the heatspreader (where you screw in the top bar) was missing/stripped.
Initial Failure: One module wasn't even working initially. I had to clean the contacts myself to make it boot.
This was clearly a returned/RMA unit that was cannibalized, thrown back into inventory, and sold to me as "New".
The Support Nightmare:
Mistakes happen, right? I contacted support immediately, but what followed was frustrating:
Bureaucracy: Instead of helping, they asked for dozens of photos of every angle and serial number.
My Proactive Proof: To stop the back-and-forth, I voluntarily filmed and uploaded a detailed video showing the condition and serials.
My Offer to HELP THEM: Since I rely on my PC for work and managed to get the RAM stable after cleaning it, I offered to KEEP the unit.
I simply asked for:
The missing spare parts (Top bar kit/Threaded insert + LED strip).
A partial discount/compensation for the cosmetic damage and used condition.
This would have saved everyone time and money.
The Response:
They completely ignored my reasonable offer. They insisted on a full return process, dragging their feet with slow responses (18+ hours per reply) and zero sense of urgency.
The Result:
I asked for an Advanced RMA (Cross-shipment) so I wouldn't be left without a working machine. They denied/ignored this too.
After wasting a week acting as their beta-tester, their only "solution" is a standard return.
Now I have to ship it back, wait weeks for a refund (due to Christmas delays), and I am left without RAM and without my money (€730 tied up) right before the holidays.
I went above and beyond: I provided evidence, I fixed/tested the modules, and I even offered to keep the damaged goods. I received zero empathy.
For a "Premium" brand charging premium prices for flagship hardware, sending out open-box trash as new and refusing to help is unacceptable.
TL;DR: Corsair Store sent me used Dominator Titanium RAM (8000MT/s kit) with scratches, missing LED strips, and broken threaded inserts. I fixed/tested them and offered to keep the kit for a discount + spare parts to avoid downtime. Support ignored my offer, was extremely slow, and refused an Advanced RMA. Now stuck with no RAM and no refund until January.

[FINAL UPDATE] Corsair's Response: "Sorry for the inconvenience" + Zero Help.
Ticket RMA #16452066 #2008723852
So, here is the conclusion.
After days of waiting, I finally received the "final answer" from Support regarding my €730 used/broken RAM kit.
The Response:
They apologized for the "inconvenience" (yes, they called sending used and broken hardware an "inconvenience") but refused everything:
No Advanced RMA (denied again).
No Discount Code offered as compensation for the mess/delays.
No expedite on the refund.
Their official stance is basically: "Send it back, wait weeks for your money, and good luck finding RAM for Christmas."
My Reaction:
I have officially closed the ticket and initiated the return for a full refund.
I also sent a very harsh reply to the agent, outlining how negligent this entire process was (but clearly, they didn't care at all).
Conclusion for the Community:
If you buy from the Corsair Webstore, be aware:
If they send you a used or broken unit (even a Flagship €700+ one), you are on your own.
They will not cross-ship a replacement. They will not prioritize you. They will treat you like it's your fault.
I'm done with Corsair. Thanks everyone for the support and the upvotes. I'll be looking for another brand for my workstation.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone in this community! 🎄
May your 2026 be full of working hardware and high FPS (unlike mine right now 😅).
Cheers

My friend actually managed to test this one whilst I was at work lol, no problems with it from what I can see. Might keep as a souvenir or resell.

Hardware Corsair sent me DDR5 Ram Replacement Sticks and the new RAM looks like this?
My 96GB of Ram had one of the sticks not working. So i sent it for a replacement. Today i’ve finally received the new RAM.. and surprise surprise, they DON’T work..
On closer inspection i’ve realised the pins look weird.. the gold contacts are far and few between.
Second image is my DDR5 from work..
Did i get a fake from Corsair? Or did my package get intercepted somehow?
Why do i have bad teeth ram?
EDIT: Thanks to CorsairLucky, who helped me get in contact with a real person, they are now on the case!! Thank you awesome reddit Community! I appreciate all your help explaining what the sticks were, why they were different, and hopefully we'll reach a happy ending soon.
I will keep you all updated
