132

u/fly_over_32 13h ago

PRNDL -->

Park

Reverse

Neutral

Drive

Low

82

u/pillainp 13h ago

I only have a PRNDM. What do I do?

82

u/RasknRusk 12h ago

I only have a 12345R. What do I do?

65

u/Phrewfuf 12h ago

Engage Race Gear.

32

u/HCG-Vedette 12h ago

I’m trying this in the middle of the highway

9

u/Spork_the_dork 10h ago

Yeah it's used for overtaking.

Or for turning your gearbox to atoms, can't remember.

2

u/connicpu 4h ago

They call that a money shift ;) you'll find out why!

31

u/Lonewolf2nd 12h ago

I don't want to show off, but I got a

R123456.

But also curious, what to do.

3

u/dancinhmr 11h ago

That’s a RNLNDNDNDND

3

u/bedir56 9h ago

Yeah? Well I got a R123456 and a 1N23456 😤

2

u/OrangeGromBoi 9h ago

Yeah? Well I got a PRND12 AND a 1N234

2

u/Ouch_i_fell_down 8h ago

Aren't most bikes still manual? Id be more surprised if you said your bike was a prndl

2

u/disturbed286 2h ago

They are, but the number of options that are either completely automatic or at least eliminate the need for the clutch are growing.

2

u/TheUrbanEnigma 12h ago

Where did they tuck your R?

5

u/ActiveNL 12h ago

Top row, left side.

2

u/TheUrbanEnigma 12h ago

Under 1? My brother had a VW where you had to push the stick in and go under 1. Recently I spent 10 minutes trying to help a lady with her new car where you had to pull the bottom of the stick up and go under 1st. Now I'm hunting for new "hidden Reverse" techniques.

1

u/slobcat1337 11h ago

Next to 1? That’s where it is on my mini and I can’t count the number of times I’ve almost driven into my house because of it.

1

u/TheUrbanEnigma 11h ago

Yeah, some manufacturers do funky things with Reverse exactly to avoid that scenario. I'm actually curious to learn more of the techniques they use.

1

u/lblacklol 8h ago

Mines right and down of 6. I have to dislocate my shoulder or ask someone in the back seat to get it there

1

u/wqwcnmamsd 8h ago

My car only has a DNR shifter. Makes me nervous about getting into an accident tbh

1

u/HystericalSail 3h ago

Those wacky Europeans and their R123456. I have 123456R, like American Jesus intended. Every time I shift into R, I hear eagles screeching about freedom. Every time I shift my wife's R123456 into R, I hear Lenin droning on about the proletariat.

1

u/747WakeTurbulance 3h ago

Pfffft. My C7 has a R123456...7!

4

u/_BaldyLocks_ 12h ago

Get a 6th

3

u/ShadowDancer_88 12h ago

Continue to upshift/downshift in a 30km long runway montage.

1

u/fucking_4_virginity 12h ago

You mean a 135246R?

1

u/sonituss 10h ago

Put it in 1 and forget about it 🧨

1

u/anr4jc 9h ago

I only have a RND, I'm lost.

1

u/532-foo 8h ago

Manuél's Prindle

125

u/YeaThatWay 12h ago

Still call it PRNDL

74

u/bornagy 12h ago

What about R123456?

46

u/AandWKyle 11h ago

That's a Runtwunny 3, Four Fifty Six

3

u/UnibrowDuck 11h ago

sean payton's new playcall leak?

2

u/STThornton 9h ago

Mine only has an R12345

2

u/Howiepenguin 8h ago

Damn, now I need to change the combination on my suitcase!

1

u/FatBloke4 8h ago

Don't tell everyone your password!

1

u/Cultural-Company282 8h ago

I think that's a French abortion pill.

1

u/ispcrco 4h ago

I've always had:

1 - 3 - 5

R - 2 -4

1

u/derpette1027 11h ago

Elite. I have the same

4

u/Top1gaming999 11h ago

Not elite, normal (although 12345R is more common)

1

u/bornagy 9h ago

to be exact mine is a pushR123456, there are some variations to this pattern...

1

u/disturbed286 2h ago

Mine is pullR

2

u/Aware_Appearance8827 12h ago

What if I have PRNDXXXXL?

4

u/sharkbait-oo-haha 12h ago

That's magnum prindel

1

u/cgimusic 9h ago

for my monster truck.

43

u/vertlegs 12h ago

Seems like you've got bigger PRBLM's to worry about.

3

u/rogfrich 12h ago

I have DNB, which is ironic given the utterly uncool music I play.

1

u/pillainp 11h ago

Do you mean the Automated Neutered Transmission?

1

u/rogfrich 11h ago

Drive, neutral and whatever B stands for (it’s the energy recovery mode). It’s an EV.

6

u/clduab11 12h ago

Hawk tuah, and slapstick that thang

1

u/resisting_a_rest 12h ago

You’re gonna need emelplasty.

1

u/Phrewfuf 12h ago

I’ve seen a PRNDS a few times.

And mine is a PRND321. My wife has a PRNDB, albeit the P is a button on top of the thing.

1

u/toker-time 10h ago

I got a PRNDS

1

u/RiffyWammel 12h ago

Park Reverse Neutral Drive Meh! ?

1

u/Arunia 11h ago

I have a RP/NDS. Sigh.

1

u/tankpuss 11h ago

Since I'm in the UK I've a R12345. Possibly easier to pronounce.

1

u/DigitalAxel 10h ago

My old car had PRNDS... Perns (Doesn't sound right...)

1

u/Oli-Baba 10h ago

"Prindom" sounds just as funny if a bit more insinuating.

1

u/txivotv 10h ago

Oh. I think mine is broke. Y have PRNDS...

1

u/Moneygrowsontrees 10h ago

My Ioniq 6 only has a PDNR (in that order) and, technically, the P is a button on the end so it could actually just be a DNR.

1

u/_Middlefinger_ 10h ago

I have a RNDB. The P is a separate button and automatic anyway 99% of the time.

1

u/Dimathiel49 9h ago

I have a RND

1

u/FreedomBread 6h ago

Prindem it is then.

1

u/C_IsForCookie 2h ago

I only have 1N23456 😭

21

u/ChriMakesAllTheDrugs 12h ago

Thanks a lot! As a person that only drives manual I did not understand lol

3

u/Voldypants_420 12h ago

You got Racing mode wrong.

2

u/ensalys 9h ago

No everyone is Mater.

3

u/DulceEtBanana 9h ago

When I was a kid, Dad used to say "L" was for "Leap" - he said we didn't use it because the shocks couldn't handle the landing.

3

u/neityght 12h ago

As someone who has always owned a manual thank you for the explanation 😅

3

u/just_a_person_maybe 12h ago

Mine is PRND123

2

u/rforce1025 11h ago

Mine is PRNDM

3

u/khinzaw 11h ago

Thanks Mr. Mosby

2

u/Orvitz 11h ago

Thank you as someone that never had an automatic I had no clue what that was

2

u/smedsterwho 10h ago

I'd never heard PRNDL before (from the UK), and I'm so proud I worked this out a second before seeing your comment

2

u/Xygen8 9h ago

I have P R N D/± S

± is a sequential manual mode to the right of D, and S is sport mode where it shifts up later.

2

u/spider3407 8h ago

Thank you! I had no idea what she was talking about. Now im thinking, duh 💜🤪

1

u/Dry_Razzmatazz69 11h ago

It's so crazy to have a L on that car, you would expect an S. What are you going to tow with a mini?!

1

u/Xor300 11h ago

I have only 12345 and (R)ocket for very fast driving.
But everytime I want to use Rocket (1..2..3..4..5.....R) engine explodes

1

u/brettmjohnson 10h ago edited 10h ago

Several years ago, I bought a Nissan Leaf electric car. The "PRNDL" is this knob on the console between the seats. Push it up to Reverse. Push it down once for Drive. Push it down twice for "B" - I've owned the car for nearly 5 years and have no idea what "B" is. First time I went to a car wash, I had to put the car in Neutral. I actually had to Google how to do that because it was not at all obvious - push knob to the left and hold it for 2-3 seconds. Just give me a fucking "PRNDL" or "PRNDB?" or at least print it on the knob. Oh, and Park is a separate switch.

1

u/jpep0469 9h ago

One of my uncle's favorite uncle jokes was to say "Put it in "D" for 'dat way' " while demonstratively pointing straight ahead.

1

u/WernerHerzogEatsShoe 8h ago

Thanks. I'm English but had no idea what a prindle was

I like that, I guess i use a '1 2 3 4 5 6', not as catchy that

1

u/Misery_Division 7h ago

I call mine N12345R

88

u/Robo-boogie 13h ago

Gear shift

88

u/iprobablybrokeit 13h ago

Nah, is PRiNDLe now.

1

u/RealZordan 12h ago

I think it's the stick in automatic cars that lets you select Park Reverse Drive Neutral Low gear.

1

u/ReammyA55 12h ago

nope... IT is a PRNDL or occasional gear shift lever. On a manual shift it is a gear shift lever. 😁😁

-34

u/deliciousleopard 13h ago

OK, boomer.

8

u/resisting_a_rest 12h ago

The term PRNDL was from the 80s (a Sniglet), who’s the boomer now?

0

u/deliciousleopard 11h ago

My vote’s on the guy claiming that the cool new thing all the kids are saying actually originates from generations prior.

10

u/XuX24 13h ago

I thought she was talking about a Pringle can.

8

u/1duck 12h ago

Man it's my first language and I thought she said Pringle and assumed that was American for the dial where you pick your drive mode.

3

u/magichronx 10h ago

English is my first language and I thought I just didn't know that word either. Turns out it's not a word but a joke from some movie

31

u/brenpeter 12h ago

It's a reference to a show called The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. It was a show about twins living in a hotel. One of the characters is an air-headed rich girl and the hotel manager teaches her how to drive. PRNDL is what she calls the gear shift and the manager has a light crash out over it.

38

u/TryonB 12h ago

It's been called "PRiNDLe" probably as long as automatic transmissions have existed. My drivers Ed teacher called it that 35 years ago.

1

u/sykoKanesh 7h ago

Interesting, this was the first time I've ever heard anyone call it that haha (43 here)

13

u/dkrtzyrrr 12h ago

london tipton

1

u/Nodnarb203 12h ago

paris hilton

0

u/canadug 7h ago

How to say you are a youngin' without saying you're a youngin'.

-2

u/Cicer 8h ago

I don't think anyone references that terrible show. It’s called a prndl because that’s what it is.

2

u/Mithrandir_Earendur 7h ago

Litterally half of the comments here reference this show. You, are out of touch and wildly overconfident.

2

u/HiFiGuy197 11h ago

In the King’s English (King being the ruler of the NYS DMV), you have a shifter and the indicator is called the quadrant.

3

u/brownhk 12h ago

I clearly remember a segment of Green Acres where Lisa (Eva Gabor) asks Oliver (Eddie Albert) during a driving lesson or something, about the PER-nan-dl. She had an accent and was a dim wit on the show, but it really (obviously) left an impression on me lol.

-6

u/Different_Pause_7198 12h ago

Shes just dumb. I bet some guy told her that as a joke not unlike "blinker fluid" & she didnt question it.

I thought she was talking about some car 💩 that I never heard of too

-1

u/resisting_a_rest 12h ago

It’s a word made up in the 80s on a show called Not Necessarily the News, they had a whole segment about “Sniglets”, words that should be in the dictionary, but aren’t.

It was probably just passed down to her from someone who used to watch that show.
