That's the attitude of a really rich person. Those people who want to act rich by buying a car they can't afford while going deep into debt only drive their G-Wagon to show off.

That's the attitude of a really rich person.

That's the attitude of someone who values their vehicle for what it is rather than an accessory to show off. I do agree, though, that it's only a rational attitude for people who have enough money that they're not worried about their cars value... But there are plenty of poor people who behave the same way about their cars even though they can't afford to replace even a PoS.

This. Too many cars nowadays are purchased as status symbols because people want to show off how loaded they are vs buying the car to appreciate its abilities.

Granted, most cars on the roads today don't have any actual performance capabilities.

This. I have a 600 euro pair of boots. I take them often if i go into the woods with my dog. My colleage knows i have a Faible for good boots and called me crazy one time when i came into the Office with them full of mud. I told him that if they can't handle a bit of dirt they wouldn't have cost that much. They also arent like some nice pair to wear on a suit, they look literally like workboots.

Good footwear really is the best. I've got a nice pair of leather boots that I've had to do some minor repairs on a few times, but they're like 20 years old at this point and still look good. Use em for what they're meant for, you just gotta keep em polished, conditioned and clean.

With the condition of the roads in my area I think buying an off-road vehicle for daily commute is totally valid. It should handle those potholes better than your basic sedan. I'm not going into serious debt for it though, I'm only a little stupid.

Part of the reason I stick to Subaru is the AWD. Handles the back roads well enough. While I'm not a fan of the 2025 redesign, at leas they kept the gear shifter the same!

Actually most people probably just think it looks cool but don't have an interest in going off road
