Pretty sure this is what she is referencing, intentionally.

I got that vibe too. Although I didn’t see anyone in the comments connecting the reference so I wasn’t sure. But I knew it had to be done

Prindle has been a joke since Green Acres or before.

The PRNDL is an electronic toggle switch below and to the left of the circular display.

I was gonna say, prndl is literally just what mechanics call the standard automatic shifter layout now. Like they say it exactly like she does. Least everyone I’ve heard talk about it.

Like a QWERTY keyboard?

I grew up surrounded by mechanics and never heard anyone call it anything but a stick or a shifter depending on the transmission.

Yeah exactly like qwerty actually. There’s multiple layouts of keyboards (qwerty, Dvorak, colemak, etc) and there are multiple layouts of shifter. PRNDL just happens to be the most commonly used layout. Another one becoming more common is DNR or FNR (drive neutral reverse, or forward neutral reverse) those you just say the letters but I like saying DNR like dinner. EV “gearboxes” have made the shifter pattern different. PRNDL only became standard because people got used to it.

Well, there you go. All the mechanics you know must be idiot wimmins according to the commenters here.

I mean… I didn’t say it…

I know you didn't.

EDIT: You know what? I'm going over the comments and the vast majority I'm seeing now aren't making fun of her at all, but rather the car.

Im making a joke. Many mechanics I know are not the brightest. That being said I mainly work in healthcare and I know many doctors who would have those same mechanics run circles around them in a critical thinking race or just about anything outside their specialty.

Yeah my bad. I saw a few comments that were unkind and ran with it. At no point did I think you were being unkind.

Ok I get your joke now. I'm also not the brightest bulb on the christmas tree.

at no point was it because she is a woman, this is quite literally the first time i ever heard about this "common" joke. i wouldnt be suprised if people actually thought it was called that.

Yep people have pointed out that car mechanics commonly call it that now.
