And as a short person, it’s a hazard. That’s a completely unnecessary blind spot that I’d have to deal with.

Current gen MINI owner here. Its not really inefficient as the entire UI is designed arround it. The only place where it doesnt work nicely is Apple CarPlay or Android Auto as those systems project in a rectangle that adapts to your display's aspect ratio. Here the provided space given by the car is a square in the middle of the screen which leaves a lot of dead space on the sides. The built in navigation fills the entire screen though.
