Cheaper than NOT having a rope?

A steering wheel without rope? Whoa... we have a trendsetter here..... /s

I know right, where would you put the rope if not on the steering wheel? On the visor? That is just silly.

Here's an idea... our next vehicles are eco-friendly... gone are the plastic door handles and we replace it with a bit of random recycled rope.....

It'll have to be hemp or jute though. None of that nasty polypropylene stuff.

That rope is securing the entire steering wheel so it doesn't just fly off.

No chance that’s cheaper to make. That’s made that part of the wheel more complex to make with extra assembly operations from different materials over the standard spoke that would’ve been stamped out with the rest of the wheel.

More complex? Doesnt seem that way to me. It’s missing structure and replaced with a rope that comes in a roll

Yes, it’s more complex. A standard third spoke with be stamped out and over moulded with the rest of the wheel. To add this fabric strap in means an extra assembly process, it means sourcing and shipping in extra materials, it means extra testing to validate the materials are suitable for this use.

cuts hand? yes no simply wasn’t part of the evaluation… maybe next year…

More stuff like flammability, resistance to wear and fading, climatic performance. There’ll probably be about a dozen tests that’ll need to be done for a different steering wheel variant.

I doubt it lol

Cheaper the produce i mean. Like not having physical buttons

16

u/Stoyfan 13h ago

I know. I doubt it is cheaper to produce and design a bespoke wheel that has styling features which is not present in any other car.

This is 100% done for looks. It has nothing to do with cost

1

u/bobboobles 12h ago

Is it really bespoke when it's in ever single one of those cars?

6

u/timberleek 12h ago

well, maybe not B, but it's at least a spoke

u/boomshiki 12h ago

It affords is the opportunity to use the word "bespoke"

How does the rope replace physical buttons?

5

u/Evantaur 13h ago

A well placed rope fixes many problems

3

u/Iampepeu 12h ago

The future is rope!

1

u/Dxsty98 13h ago

Almost certainly not yeah

1

u/87utrecht 11h ago

It's not "probably" if you make it the fuck up.

It's ".. and I made it the fuck up".

1

u/pillowpants66 11h ago

Tell that to the Porsche 911 GT3RS owners who have to open the door using a “rope”

u/Natedoggsk8 3h ago

Thats for lightweight
